I had been a used car salesman for 3 years and decided I was going nowhere with the career.  I had been a gym rat my entire life, and always thought it would be fun to work in the fitness industry.  I have always been a natural salesperson and I knew I would do a great job.  Unfortunately, no one would give me a chance.  Because I didn’t have prior fitness industry experience or education, my resume was being passed over for those who did have experience.  I did a search on the web to learn more about working in the industry and I ran across FSTA.  Because it was so affordable and because I am an impulse buyer, I gave it a shot.  2 weeks later I was certified by FSTA and the following week I was hired as a membership consultant with Gold's Gym.  They said after I was hired that they chose me simply because I was the only one who took the initiative to become to become FSTA Certified!  Since then I have worked in over 10 different facilities and now am General Manager over a chain of 6 gyms in Japan.  It sounds cheesy, but becoming FSTA Certified literally changed my life.  If it worked for me, it will work for anyone!

I just wanted to offer my recommendation to anyone considering the FSTA Certification program.  My friend and his wife opened a small gym and asked me to leave my position as an entry-level financial advisor to become their full time manager and salesperson.  I figured that since I knew how to sell and because I was good with people that it would be an easy transition.  What a wake up call to have my friend approach me after only 2 months of being open and let me know that they wouldn’t be able to keep paying my salary.  I was frantic and decided to look for marketing strategies online to try to get more members in quickly.  I ran across the FSTA website, ordered the study guide and exam, and received my certification in less than a week!  The first week after becoming certified I had my biggest week since I had began and I haven’t looked back since!  My friends offered me an equity ownership position in their second facility, which is set to open in 4 months.  I am so excited about what lies ahead and I am so grateful to those at FSTA for creating such a great program.
